Overview
- The Outer Liner generally high quality Kraft
- The Flute - this separates the inner and outer liner
and gives the board its strength
- The Inner Liner important for strength but not so
important visually
- Double wall board has an extra central liner and 2
sets fluting.
- Test and Chip liners are made from recycled fibres.
- TL2 is made entirely from recycled fibres but offers
a better visual performance and improved printability
over ordinary test.
- Kraft was originally made from 100% virgin wood pulp,
but now contains a proportion of waste based material.
- White Top Kraft is made by bleaching or coating the
surface fibres
- Mottled Kraft is a surface layer of bleached fibres
randomly applied resulting in a mottled appearance
Fluting
- The flute is produced with recycled paper with added
chemicals and starch to give good sheet strength and
excellent fluteability
- The weight of standard fluting is 105-112 gsm
- Standard central liners in double wall material are
100 - 110chip
Alternative flutings available are as follows:

To Customers
- Basis Weight – Grammage of paper per m 2
- Ring Crush Test – Relates to box compression
strength, measured in Newton’s
- Burst Strength – Gives an indication of the
containability of the paper.
- Calliper – Measures the thickness of the paper
usually in Microns.
- Cobb Test – Measures the water resistance of
the paper.
- Moisture Content – Measures the % of water in
the paper (normally 6-10%)
- Combined Grammages – Weight of board per m 2
- Edge Crush Test – Relates to the box compression
- Flat Crush Test – Gives an indication of the
cushioning characteristic of the board
